Film Poster

This film poster was created for the movie To Kill a Mockingbird. It

The Message

Beyond being a film poster, the headline and design speak to the message of the film and beyond. The words “Injustice Kills The Innocent” point to the truth that a system of injustice (racially, sexually, etc.) will fail the innocent when they are not given fair and equitable conditions. In the film, Tom Robinson, is wrongfully accused of raping a young woman in the town. Because he is a Black man being tried with an all-White jury in a town of racism, he stands no chance and is convicted of raping her. Eventually, he dies trying to escape jail, but he never should have been there in the first place.

Beyond the Words

The poster design also goes further than the words chosen for the headline. By pressing the letters into dirt and demonstrating the dirt overlaying the concrete, the message begins to demonstrate that injustice is not just in our past. It exists in the present day and the longer it exists within society, the more difficult it is to change and overcome it. At the bottom of the poster, the crack dividing the poster demonstrate the divide in humanity the is present in both the film and real life. The type faces chosen combine a modern sans serif with a bold, italic serif. This combination demonstrate the duality of the existence of injustice in the past and the present.
